US Armed Forces Conducts Deadly Attack in Pacific, Resulting in 4 Deaths

According to a high-ranking defense official, the US armed forces carried out a lethal strike on a boat in the eastern Pacific, killing four individuals.

“Joint Task Force Southern Spear carried out a deadly attack on a vessel operated by a Designated Terrorist Organization in open sea. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was traveling along a known drug smuggling route and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations. A total of four male narco-terrorists were killed, and no American forces were injured.”

Context and Recent Actions

This announcement follows a day after a declaration regarding a naval blockade of all targeted oil tankers to and from Venezuela. That statement on online platforms, the American leader accused Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund narcotics smuggling and other crimes, vowing to increase the military presence.

Just on Tuesday, US defense officials stated it had conducted strikes on three boats it accused of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Beginning on 2 September, over 20 strikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Justifies Tactics Amidst Scrutiny

The government has faced growing pressure to make public video of a September 2nd vessel attack. But, officials have declined to do so. The administration has supported its campaign as a success, saying it has stopped drugs from reaching US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is exceeding the limits of lawful warfare.

Although the administration has said the campaign is about halting drugs headed to the US, remarks from a senior aide appeared to confirm a wider political aim. In a recently published interview, the chief of staff remarked the leader “aims to keep on blowing boats up until the Venezuelan president cries uncle.”

This indicates the military campaign may be linked to a strategy to oust Venezuela's current government.
