A comprehensive rescue and recovery effort is actively in progress in the Caribbean Sea for two unlocated sailboats transporting humanitarian supplies journeying from Mexico to Cuba.

Military Rescue Efforts Initiated

The Mexican government has sent naval assets and reconnaissance aircraft to search for the Friendship and Tigger Moth, which were had on board a minimum of nine total sailors, as stated by a navy statement.

The boats had been expected to arrive in the Cuban capital on Tuesday or Wednesday, but there has been a complete lack of contact from them and no official word of their arrival, the statement clarified.

The Situation of Relief to Cuba

Cuba has leaned on aid convoys from Mexico over the last several weeks, as the nation struggles through multiple national electricity failures.

"Both crews and captains are experienced sailors, and the two ships are outfitted with suitable navigational gear and signalling equipment," a representative for the convoy stated.

The nine individuals on board are from France, Poland, the United States, and Cuba. Officials said it has been in touch with coast guard agencies from each country along with their consular staff.

"The group is collaborating completely with the authorities and remain confident in the ability of the crews to make it to Cuba without incident," the official further stated.

Earlier Aid Delivery

Earlier in the week, the government in Havana warmly welcomed and warmly received another boat that had transported a significant amount of donated goods to the nation.

That ship, nicknamed "Granma 2.0" following the name of the boat in which the revolutionary leader landed in Cuba to begin the revolution in the mid-20th century, brought photovoltaic panels, medicines, infant formula, bikes and food.

Broader Political Climate

Non-governmental organizations and volunteers have been at the forefront of efforts to deliver essential supplies to Cuba starting at the turn of the year, coinciding with the time a fuel embargo on the island nation was initiated.

Global bodies have since raised alarms about "dire" shortages of supplies, with more than fifty thousand surgical procedures postponed in Cuba because of electricity supply constraints.

Foreign policy measures have intensified over the past months, with statements from various officials underscoring the complicated state of bilateral relations.

In response to certain proposals, a senior official from Cuba stated firmly that "the governance model of Cuba is non-negotiable."

Reports suggest that initial phases of talks commenced, although their present status remains not publicly known.

The maritime authorities stated it was pledged to using all of the resources at its reach to find the vessels and guarantee the safety of the crews.

To date, there has been no official comment on the disappeared vessels by the government in Havana.
