The American champion Assured of Being 'perfectly positioned' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

Legendary skier Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in a good place" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, after claiming a podium spot for the fourth instance in her last five World Cup events.

The 41-year-old, who achieved a milestone by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, finished third in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This represented her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup top-three result.

Strong Return in Val d'Isere

Competing at the French Alps resort for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn crossed the line in a time of 1:20.60. She was 0.36 seconds behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking second place.

"I was slightly lacking enough direction on the initial jump," the skier commented. "From that point on, I performed strongly. I'm satisfied with my skiing today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was overly cautious."

This performance was her second podium at Val d'Isere during the event, having also claimed bronze in the downhill race on Saturday.

A Remarkable Comeback from Retirement

Vonn ended her career in February 2019 as a result of persistent injuries. However, she staged a competitive comeback in December 2024 after a partial knee replacement.

With 47 days remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are scheduled for February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's performances are highly promising.

She already possesses an Olympic gold and two Olympic bronze medals in her collection and is strongly positioned to compete for the United States at the next Olympics.

"When we get to Cortina, I will be in a good place," Vonn affirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

Alongside her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four World Cup titles she has accumulated over a professional journey spanning two decades.

She currently holds a 69-point lead at the summit of the overall downhill standings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table.

This current World Cup campaign features a nine more events taking place before the circuit finale in Norway on March 21st, 2026.
